Search the term “cluster bombs” and you’ll find condemnation of their use from many directions, which resulted in over 100 countries signing on to a righteous international ban of their use.
But the U.S., Russia and Ukraine never signed on to the ban. Russia has used cluster bombs in Ukraine and Biden is now sending them to Ukraine. Even The New York Times which has backed every weapon the U.S. has sent to Ukraine, thinks this could be a problem in that most U.S. allies ban cluster bombs. Not to mention that thousands of mostly civilians are at risk of death and dismemberment from the clusters lying about.

The U.S. is tied to the same munitions they used in Vietnam and Iraq/Afghanistan to devastate civilian populations. John LaForge from Nukewatch writes as part of a longer piece, “Any threatened or actual use of poisonous, gene-busting depleted uranium munitions in Ukraine cannot be considered lawful or ethical and must be condemned unreservedly by civil society on all sides of the Ukraine war.”
This proxy war between Russia and the U.S. – from all sides – is illegitimate.

Rally in Scranton PA (Biden’s home town) to End War in Ukraine
11:00 am Scranton Army Ammunition Plant (General Dynamics) 156 Cedar Avenue, Scranton
I’ll be joining and speaking at this protest in Scranton PA. Join me!
Veterans For Peace and other U.S. anti-war organizations (see below) denounce the Biden administration’s decision to send cluster bomb munitions to Ukraine and we will hold a rally on July 22 at 11;00 am at the Scranton (PA) Army Ammunition Plant to oppose sending cluster bombs, and all weapons, into the Ukraine War, and call for an immediate ceasefire.
The Scranton plant produces 11,000 artillery shells a month but cannot keep up with the demand for killing. That the U.S. would even consider sending cluster bombs, a weapon designed to wound as many people as possible, into the Ukraine War to make up for the lack of artillery shells, is horrifying and also revealing.
It reveals to the world just how little the U.S. cares for the Ukrainian people and their futures or the futures of the Russian people. In postwar areas where cluster bombs have been used, they wreak a horrific toll on children who pick up the unexploded duds. Corporations reaping bloody profits from cluster bombs are the only beneficiaries of this tragic policy and this war.
