Sunday March 12, International Women’s Day Rally & March
1:00 pm, Union Square @17th Street
This International Women’s Day, draw inspiration from the heroic young girls and women of Iran who have risked their lives, defiantly flooding the streets, burning their hijabs and cutting their hair, in defiance of the Islamic theocrats who rule Iran. Look to the women of Mexico, Colombia and Argentina who forced these highly conservative, patriarchal and Catholic countries to decriminalize abortion by filling the streets in relentless and determined mass resistance, spreading the Green Wave.
Argentina
Draw daring and courage from the tens of thousands, mainly youth, who responded to the call from Rise Up 4 Abortion Rights last winter and spring, walking out of schools, marching in the streets, blocking traffic, disrupting business as usual to stop the overturning of Roe v Wade. Though we were not successful we saw the basis and potential to bring millions into the streets and force the restoration of the right to abortion nationally.
