Trump Pardons War Criminals

Trump worked to bring down Joe Biden via U.S. foreign policy and obstructed  the Congressional investigation, the Democrats say they intend to keep the impeachment inquiry limited to these narrow grounds of “endangering national security” and possibly obstruction as well as bribery.

They are not investigating Trump for his threats to humanity.  Concentration camps on the border… acceleration of ecological devastation… the danger of continuing and further wars, even nuclear… white supremacy with increasing rabid mobs and racist mass murderers… truth and science erased… the right to abortion nearly gone… the rule of law and democratic and civil rights stripped away… This is fascism unfolding.

Then, on November 15, with the impeachment investigation going on in the House, Trump did something that, for months,  Fox Network has been lobbying for.  He pardoned two U.S. military war criminals:

  • Clint Lorance, who was turned in by his own commander for killing unarmed Afghanis, convicted and sentenced to 19 years.
  • Matthew Goldsteyn, who was facing pre-meditated murder charges, which he admitted to, in killing an unarmed Afghani.

Trump also “cleared” Eddie Gallagher, who was acquitted of most murder charges by a military jury. The military was about to kick him out of the Navy Seals but Trump is allowing him to keep his rank.

In October, Trump had tweeted regarding the Goldsteyn case, “We train our boys to be killing machines, then prosecute them when they kill!” He later emphasized, “We teach them how to be great fighters and then, when they fight, sometimes they get really treated very unfairly.”  This is the commander in chief who deployed the “mother of all bombs” – the biggest bomb in history – in Afghanistan. These are all heroes of the fascist order, fitting heroes for unjust wars.

Our Heroes

lyle nytOn Veteran’s day, We Are Not Your Soldiers speaker Lyle Rubin, a former Marine intelligence officer, talked about the unjust US war on Afghanistan in this New York Times video.

People, like the participants in this video, who speak out and stand up for justice are heroes, retaining their humanity.
