No Saviors When It Comes to Ending U.S. Aggression

nintchdbpict000314881551For those who truly care about the children of Syria and the expanding battlegrounds within the Trump/Pence Regime’s crosshairs, the past week has made starkly clear that there are no saviors. It’s up to us to end U.S. aggression.

The mainstream media bombarded you with messages of how liberating and humanitarian it was to bomb Syria. Brian Williams called the Tomahawk missiles “beautiful,” Fareed Zakariah claimed that “Donald Trump became president of the United States” the minute he bombed Syria and Nicholas Kristof plainly said, “Trump was right to bomb Syria.” These three lit the way for their peers.

Hours before the Trump Regime launched over 50 tomahawk missles on Syria, Hilary Clinton advocated doing just that stating, “I really believe we should have and still should take out his air fields and prevent him from being able to use them to bomb innocent people and drop sarin gas on them.” While Capitol Hill objected to the unilateral authorization of strikes, the majority took no issue with the attack itself. Any opposition was not about the welfare of the Syrian people or military intervention on a war-torn nation but instead the fact that they weren’t consulted. Military intervention in Syria, (the only type of “support” that the U.S. offers struggling nations) was the brainchild of and started under the former Democratic administration. U.S. dominance in the Middle East is something they can all unite on.

This escalation of war was cheered on by leading Democrats:

  • Chuck Schumer: “making sure Assad knows that when he commits such despicable atrocities he will pay a price is the right thing to do.”
  • Nancy Pelosi: described it as “a proportional response” to chemical weapons attack.
  • Elizabeth Warren: “Syrian regime must be held accountable.”
  • Mark Warner: Assad “could not go unpunished.”
  • Dick Durbin: a “measured response.”
  • Tim Kaine: “It is the right thing to do to try to deter Assad from war crimes… President Trump doing this, finally waking up to the atrocities in Syria, is a good thing.”

Much of it had the tone of “We told you this is what was needed.”

As Glenn Greenwald wrote last week, “In the last two months, Trump has ordered a commando raid in Yemen that has massacred children and dozens of innocent people, bombed Mosul and killed scores of civilians, and bombed a mosque near Aleppo that killed dozens. During the campaign, he vowed to murder the family members of alleged terrorists. He shut America’s doors to Syrian refugees, and is deporting people who have lived in the U.S. since childhood despite committing no crimes…. The U.S. Government does not wage war, and the U.S. military does not blow things up, out of humanitarianism. It does so when it believes there is some benefit to be obtained for itself. If humanitarianism is what motivated the U.S. in Syria, it would take in massive numbers of refugees, but it hasn’t. If humanitarianism is what motivated the U.S. bombing of Libya, it would have given large amounts of aid to that country in the aftermath to help it deal with the ensuing anarchy and misery, but it didn’t. That’s because humanitarianism is the pretext for U.S. wars, not the actual motive.”

All of us who truly care need to come to grips with the fact that nobody in the Democratic Party or their media mouthpieces such as The New York Times are going to stop this regime. The Trump/Pence regime is escalating the wars on the Middle East and into Africa at rapid fire pace. Together, we must be the emergency response team that pulls people away from rallying behind, relying on and making excuses for the Democrats and instead drives this fascist regime from power.
