As an internationally-travelled and internationally-minded person who has seen the U.S. from the viewpoint from outside its borders — why do YOU think it matters if a movement like World Can’t Wait raises its message and is persistent?
As an immigrant to the US who has also traveled the world and been on the receiving end of US imperialism, it would be very sad if people throughout the world never learned that Americans can be better, more humane and universalists than their governments, and that despite the relentless propaganda they are subject to, they can see and stand beyond the arrogant, hubristic, imperialist nature of their own state. It would also be very sad if history has nothing to show to future generations than a population committed to endless wars. It would be sad because it is not true, and the unwavering work of World Can’t Wait in support of international solidarity and justice, against the illegality and immorality of the US war machinery, is an indicator of the resistance of the American people to be immoral actions of their own state. So I encourage as many fellow Americans as possible to support the work of World Can’t Wait financially, intellectually, and as activists if at all possible. Nobody will do it if we don’t.
You support many good causes and work on many crucial issues. What is it about World Can’t Wait that deserves your financial support? As well as all your support in marching in the streets with it! Although if for some people they aren’t marching in the street with us, and just want to send funds to support, that is very much part of our movement too…
What I particularly value about World Can’t Wait is their unwavering and principled opposition to American militarism and continuing assaults against sovereign peoples throughout the world, without getting into the details of individual political ideologies. I have myself encountered peoples with a variety of political ideologies united in this anti-imperialistic stance with World Can’t Wait— socialists of diverse extraction, a variety of liberals, and so-called conservatives. We can certainly differ in our views about the good society, but it is as critical or even more to know what kind of society we do not want. And at least I certainly do not want the society that is sold to us through the relentless corporate media propaganda of a United States that is exceptional, unimpeachable in its motives, and self-appointed judge, jury, and executioner in world affairs, especially, and remarkably, one with the historical track record of the American state. Indeed, it is hard to find a state in the history of the world that is responsible for as much suffering, death and destruction as the US state. There is nobody but the American people themselves who must resist and fight back, and not allow the normalization of this criminality. This is why groups like World Can’t Wait[are] to be encouraged, supported, and joined if at all possible.
