March 4-6: Mass Mobilization to Stop Drone Wars!

World Can’t Wait | February 22, 2015

World Can’t Wait endorses actions to Shut Down Creech Air Force Base, the primary home of killer drones. We received this from activists:

Possibly 200-300 activists from 16+ states will converge at Creech AFB in early march, to unite against this horrendous and unconscionable practice: Executing people remotely from the desert of Nevada, without providing any evidence of guilt. This has got to stop! Won’t you join us to  SHUT DOWN CREECH?  (Caravan leaving Bay Area Feb. 28)

In 2005, Creech Air Force Base secretly became the first U.S. base in the country to carry out illegal, remotely controlled assassinations using the MQ-1 Predator drones, and in 2006, the more advanced Reaper drones were added to its arsenal. Creech drone personnel sit behind computers in the desert north of Las Vegas and kill “suspects” thousands of miles away.

Recent independent research indicates that the identity of only one out of 28 victims of U.S. drone strikes is known beforehand. Though officials deny it, the majority of those killed by drones are civilians. In 2014, it was leaked that the CIA’s criminal drone assassination program, officially a separate operation from the Air Force’s, has been piloted all along by Creech’s super-secret Squadron 17…

The US drone program is rapidly proliferating as air bases are being converted to drone bases across the U.S. and abroad, but Creech remains the primary air base in U.S. state-sponsored global terrorism. Creech is where the killer drone program started–it is where we shall end it.

Clergy, Veterans Among Six Arrested Ash Wednesday at Killer Drone Protest at Beale Air Base; Ashes Spread Memorializing Children Killed by Drones

MARYSVILLE/BEALE AFB  (February 18) – Six people – including several clergy members and military veterans – were arrested during an Ash Wednesday service that began about 3 p.m. today at the gate of  Beale Air Force Base  during a n act of “repentance” for the innocent people, including children, killed by the U.S. government’s fleet of killer drones.

Participants, who were charged with trespassing onto federal land and taken into custody by military police as they spread ashes memorializing those of children killed by U.S. drones overseas. They will still in custody early Wednesday evening.

Beale is the home of the Global Hawk “accomplice” drone, a surveillance drone that helps find targets for the armed Predator and Reaper killer drones. Beale AFB has been the site of numerous protests opposing killer drones, with dozens of people arrested – included five last Ash Wednesday.

The five arrested included: Rev. Sharon Delgado, Nevada City, CA;   Barry Binks, Sacramento, CA; Shirley Osgood, Grass Valley, CA; Pamela Osgood, Grass Valley, CA; Marcus Page, Sheep Ranch, CA and Lorraine Reich, Nevada City, CA.

The service was led by United Methodist, United Church of Christ, and Lutheran clergy and a member of Catholic Worker.  The service involved songs, prayers, scripture, Holy Communion (open to all), a call to action, and the use of ashes to symbolize repentance and to acknowledge human mortality.

“In addition to focusing on repentance for the harm caused to drone victims, the service will call for repentance for:  the harm done to the Indigenous people who used to live where Beale is now, the harm being done to Mother Earth by our building and deploying high-tech weapons and weapons of mass destruction, the harm done to families and communities who suffer cutbacks in public services while billions are spent for the military, the overall harm caused by the global reach of US military power,” said Ms Delgado, one of the clergy participants arrested Wednesday.
