On Black Friday, activists from the World Can’t Wait – Bay Area chapter united with other groups including The Light Brigade to protest the non-indictment of Darren Wilson in the killing of Michael Brown. A hundred people converged on the municipal tree-lighting ceremony with the message “Black Lives Matter,” with many thousands viewing the Light Brigade signs, and hearing powerful messages.
When a column in the San Francisco Chronicle attacked the protest, featuring the photo below of Stephanie Tang, a World Can’t Wait activist, she demanded they publish an opinion piece on the side of the protest. It appeared yesterday evening….

”Black lives matter! To carry this message, hundreds of thousands of protesters have flooded into America’s streets, outraged by the police killing of unarmed black teenager Michael Brown and the non-indictment of his killer. We shut down freeways and bridges coast to coast, stopping traffic, holiday shopping, Grand Central Station and other business as usual.
Then came another grand jury non-indictment: Eric Garner, also an unarmed African American, with this killing by choke hold caught on video. This ruling stoked more furious protests, continual and now countless, and has sparked solidarity marches in Tokyo, London, Paris and Melbourne.
‘Black lives matter!’ Why must this even be said? Because these rulings declare to the world: In America, black lives do not matter.
Did you hear that? Do you not feel assaulted straight to your heart? If not, why not?”
