Over the month of July, 21 more people joined our sustainer community. It is a precious political act that these individuals took in making the monthly commitment to support visible resistance. Many people in this unpredictable financial situations could not commit to monthly donations but made one-time generous contributions totaling over $1,000. Others wrote statements of support or shared why they give. This is all greatly appreciated and critical at a time when telling the truth and refusing to go along with the status quo is needed more than ever.
While we did not reach our goal, this effort and all those donations and donors made a real difference in readying for the fall and beyond, when people really need to hear our message that "Humanity and the Planet Come First – Stop the Crimes of Your Government." We will continue to present people with the act of sustaining as a critical way to join collective conscience in action. Be sure to stay tuned for more of our plans to protest the DNC and the variety of ways you can be involved.
Hear from some sustainers on why they give monthly to World Can’t Wait
Stan Brooks, AFSCME member and Executive Board member of Local 1857, King County Library System employees:
I’ve been a small sustaining supporter for some time, even during that period when I wasn’t sure when the next paycheck was coming in, or even if it was, because of the work that you do. I value you and your staff’s commitment to the causes of dignity, freedom and justice for all people everywhere, and your uncompromising position that War Crimes should be accounted for and punished. You do the work that I, for various reasons, do not feel able to do, but I can at least in this small way contribute. If someone is wondering whether or not to support World Can’t Wait I can assure them than their money could not be better spent than by supporting World Can’t Wait. I send my deepest hope for your success in adding new subscribers.
Eric, a sustainer in Florida:
Where I live, there is very little anti-war protest or resistance to the crimes of this government. I participate by sustaining World Can’t Wait so that others have a way to act. If you can’t be in the streets, sustain the organization that makes sure the voice of the people is raised consistently.
Lynne Jackson, founder of Project SALAM:
Why am I a sustainer? World Can’t Wait has the morally correct position on many of the issues I care about – anti-war, free Bradley Manning, stop Islamophobia, and many others. WCW has also taken the strongest position supporting abortion rights of any organization – unapologetic support of a woman’s right to choose. What I like best about WCW and why I am a sustainer is that WCW has taken a stand completely against war. No apologies. Stop the wars. No ifs, ands or buts – stop the wars. WCW is a caring, inclusive, and active. They are out there – day and night, bringing attention to the issues that matter with a consistent message of peace.
