A dangerous new wave of attacks against women’s basic right to control their reproduction – from abortion to birth control – began with Republican election victories last fall. Using anti-scientific claims that abortion harms women, they are going to take us back to the 1960s when thousands of women died every year from illegal abortions. The anti-abortion crowd is slashing funds for pregnancy prevention and health care for low-income women. As much as they talk about unborn fetuses, their “morality” does not extend to providing for children who need public schools, health care, and someday, college educations; nor children born in countries currently being bombed by the United States military. This culture war is not about fetuses – it’s about nothing less than the social role of women and our most basic rights.
Why should right-wingers in Congress and state legislatures set the terms for women’s lives? Why should the “tea-baggers” and racist lunatics be the only ones protesting in the streets? We need an uncompromising movement of people standing up for women right now!
We need VISIBLE sustained opposition to the 3 anti-women bills in Congress and the more than 200 bills currently being debated in state legislatures. Many pro-choice people are counting on these debates to be settled by Obama’s veto power or the Democratic majority in the Senate. But that hope doesn’t even speak to the need to stop these measures coming at the state level, the threat represented by these attempts to frame Planned Parenthood for crimes, or the undeterred mobilizations on the part of violent groups like Operation Rescue against current (or future!) abortion providers. Meanwhile, a group of anti-abortion Democrats have issued a plan to reduce abortions by 95% in 10 years, without even mentioning birth control.
There can be no “common ground” with those making war on women. It’s time to get ourselves together and stop them.
Abortion is not murder. Fetuses are not children. Women are not incubators.
A whole generation of women and men have been kept in the dark about these basic facts, so:
World Can’t Wait produced “Abortion, Morality, and the Liberation of Women,” a discussion between Dr. Susan Wicklund, author of This Common Secret: My Journey as an Abortion Doctor and Sunsara Taylor, writer for Revolution newspaper, filmed before a lively and diverse audience. This video is divided into 15 short sections: presentations followed by questions and answers, and is just under 60 minutes.
“Abortion, Morality and the Liberation of Women” is available on YouTube or DVD, specially designed for use in classrooms and by school groups. Order a copy (or several) online today at worldcantwait.net! Bring scientific and moral clarity on the topic to students with this film— answering the hard questions, and motivating students to stand up at this crucial moment for women’s rights.

We must keep the rights that we have earned. We cannot go back to the old days, where women often tried to self-abort and were maimed or killed because a safe way was not available at that time! Now, when there is a problem and a woman chooses abortion, it must be made available to her in a safe and clean environment where the doctor knows what he or she is doing!
women need equality and more rights on all subjects
