From the San Francisco Bay Area Chapter:
March 19, 2003: American bombs began raining Shock and Awe down on Baghdad to launch a war that’s gone on till today. Today as the U.S. war on Iraq stretches on into a ninth year, the President of the United States continues making clear that there is no end in sight.
An entire global generation is coming of age having never known a time without this illegitimate, immoral war – this genocidal assault and occupation, to be more precise. They have grown up in a world where an American war begun on the basis of monstrous lies, against a country weakened already by 15 years of U.S. sanctions which cost tremendous loss of civilian life, is going on and on and on.
On the 8th anniversary of the U.S. war on Iraq, we need to act to raise the demand: STOP THIS WAR! And we must also strengthen our demand to end the U.S. occupation of Afghanistan, and the secret bombing and black operations of Pakistan and Yemen.
It’s time to put political opposition to these wars back on the map, in a mass, visible, and determined way. Saturday, March 19 will be a major national day of action. Many courageous people will take action in the streets, outside military bases, and at the White House and other places representing the war machine, saying NO to this war. Watch this e-list for more as these plans shape up, especially for marches and other actions on March 19 itself.
On March 19 In San Francisco, meet up with the World Can’t Wait contingent for the rally and march beginning at the 12 noon Rally at UN Plaza (7th & Market Streets)
In addition, we are mobilizing ALL THAT WEEK March 12-19 in
Collateral Murder Video Actions
. We will travel around different communities to set up street showings, and we need many volunteers to join the teams in the cities, in suburbs, at big-crowd events. We aim to take Collateral Murder wherever evening crowds gather to see it – and to learn why it took Wikileaks to make this video public. We want to talk with people from all walks of life about how they see this war, and our responsibilities as people living in this country to end it. This March we aim to spread the World Can’t Wait movement of conscience and resistance to hundreds of new people.
And if you can help arrange classroom video showings and discussions, we are eager to get invitations from high school teachers and students anywhere within driving distance. See the impact this kind of truth-telling can have on exactly the young people who are being targeted by recruiters with a massive budget and mission right now. Who will fight, and kill and be killed, in what is now Obama’s war as it spreads rapidly across the region? Help turn that question around with the We Are Not Your Soldiers Tour.
Spend as much time as you possibly can this March, engaging all this with World Can’t Wait.
to volunteer. Whether you can give an hour or an evening, or every evening that week, there’s a spot on the team for you.
