I wish all of you a happy new year. Thanks to your hundreds of donations from $4 to $2500, the World Can’t Wait fund raiser brought in close to $26,000 by December 31. We were able to speak with hundreds by phone and learned that how you value the work of World Can’t Wait, and donate as an important way of being involved in it.
You can count on this work continuing, and on being asked for further donations! The goal — to fund anti-war protests and the We Are Not Your Soldiers tour for 2011 is $64,000 by January 31. I really appreciate that more of you have signed up to be monthly sustainers. We can now do this directly through worldcantwait.net, instead of through Paypal. Tuesday January 11, 10.30 am: 11-day Vigil and Fast for the Closure of Guantanamo begins outside The White House.
10:30am – Gather @ the White House
11:00am – Press Conference @ the White House with the Center for Constitutional Rights and and other groups
11:45am – procession to the Department of Justice (goal of 173 people in jumpsuits)

On the 9th anniversary of the opening of Guantánamo, anti-torture activists Witness Against Torture launch a Daily Vigil and Fast for Justice that will continue for 11 days and includes demonstrations throughout Washington D.C. The event on January 11 begins with a rally of a coalition of human rights and grassroots groups and individuals, including the Center for Constitutional Rights, Torture Abolition and Survivors Support Coalition, The World Can’t Wait.
