I’m sorry to have missed the protests this week in Dallas, where I was scheduled to speak and participate in opposition to the ground-breaking ceremony today at the George W. Bush Library site at Southern Methodist University.
Boots of U.S. military killed in Iraq & Afghanistan were laid in neat rows near the banner.
At SMU, there’s a new exhibit with some things that will presumably be featured in the Bush museum, such as a pistol taken from Saddam Hussein. Not even this exhibit is unopposed, as the New York Times reported in New Bush Exhibit Opens Rift at SMU. "For nearly two years, a group of Methodist ministers, historians and teachers sought to prevent the university from leasing land for the center to the National Archives and Records Administration. Of particular concern was the institute, which would operate on university grounds but outside its academic controls."
I’ve been on a rant for a week, since Bush’s book, Decision Points, came out. There was his smirking defense of waterboarding, which got me going. But then, repeatedly, he’s been asked about his "biggest disappointment" as president. The Associated Press says, "The former president said he still feels ‘sick about’ the fact no weapons of mass destruction were found in Iraq."
Billions of human beings are sick about the US war and occupation which killed possibly a million Iraqis based on the lie that Iraq even had such weapons. Anyone sitting on their couch eating cheetos and paying moderate attention could tell in February 2003 that Bush was lying. But his biggest disappointment is that the U.S. didn’t find WMD’s? This is what’s so sick.
No institute, no museum, no library inside or outside a university can cover up for these crimes. Much respect to Leslie Harris, Ray McGovern, Ann Wright, Cindy Sheehan, Kathy Kelly, Elliott Adams, and all the protesters in Dallas for speaking up against this WAR CRIMINAL!
Follow Bush’s book tour over the next month, and into next year at warcriminalswatch.org.
W’s “Lie Bury” is great framing, for it appears the Bush “Die Nasty” is triangulating between its craven White House surrogate and insaniTea party to propel JEB back into the pResidency as the less depraved DESPOTUS!
We missed you, Debra! It was a great gathering, on top of being a great action and information sharing.
