Protest Arizona’s Anti-Immigrant Law – Set to Go into Effect July 29

Posted on July 23, 2010
Share:

On Thursday, July 29, the unjust Arizona law SB 1070 targeting immigrants is set to go into effect.  The law requires that police demand proof of legal residency from anyone they "stop, detain or arrest" if police suspect that person is an undocumented immigrant.  11 other states are considering such legislation including Pennsylvania.

This week, two Utah state workers were fired for leaking a list of 1300 names, with addresses, of people they said were illegal immigrants receiving social services.  Deseret News reported, "Leaders of Hispanic groups said at a Thursday press conference that ‘the list’ has made many Utah Latinos feel like Jews in Nazi Germany."

"Many legal residents and citizens are going to be subjected to interrogation by the police because they "fit the description" i.e. are dark-skinned; have an accent; wear a certain style of clothes; or live in the "immigrant" part of town", says Revolution in Arizona’s anti-Immigrant Law is Inhumane & Illegitimate.

Into this situation, the U.S. government is sending more guns.  "Hundreds of National Guard troops are expected to begin their deployment to the US-Mexico border on August 1 as part of the Obama administration’s attempt to halt the flow of weapons, cash and people to El Norte," writes Yana Kunichoff in Hundreds of National Guard Troops to Be Deployed to US-Mexico Border.

What's the difference between
English Only and Whites Only?We recieved calls to protest SB 1070 from Arizona Freedom Summer:

Be part of a visible, defiant, and angry resistance on July 29th (when SB1070 goes into effect). And on the 30th, Arpaio has said he will carry out raids. This cannot be allowed to go down. There needs to be no business as usual on these days. We will be declaring "No deportation Zones" and going to wherever the raids are happening. If this government is going to declare our immigrant brothers and sisters "illegals," then we are all illegals! And we don’t gotta show no stinkin’ papers!

and from: Call to Action for Human Rights!! Join us in Arizona July 23-30, 2010 for the National Week Against Criminalization!

We demand that the Obama Administration take decisive action and not comply with Arizona’s SB1070. This law can only terrorize our communities if the federal government cooperates with it. We demand that all ICE programs such as 287(g), Secure Communities, and the CAP programs be suspended.

We demand Arizona institutions such as Cities, Towns, Police Jurisdictions, Universities, Colleges, K-12 Schools, School Districts and Businesses to publicly state that they will not comply and will not cooperate with SB1070.

We call on people from around the country to come to Phoenix and stand in solidarity with the communities of Arizona to stop the implementation of SB1070! If you cannot come to Arizona, have a solidarity action in your home community!

July 29th 2010 Don’t Work! Don’t buy! Don’t comply!  Please contact: actionforhumanrights@gmail.com

I hope that every American, regardless of where he lives, will stop and examine his conscience about this and other related incidents. This Nation was founded by men of many nations and backgrounds. It was founded on the principle that all men are created equal, and that the rights of every man are diminished when the rights of one man are threatened. All of us ought to have the right to be treated as he would wish to be treated, as one would wish his children to be treated, but this is not the case.

I know the proponents of this law say that the majority approves of this law, but the majority is not always right. Would women or non-whites have the vote if we listen to the majority of the day, would the non-whites have equal rights (and equal access to churches, housing, restaurants, hotels, retail stores, schools, colleges and yes water fountains) if we listen to the majority of the day? We all know the answer, a resounding, NO!

As for the undocumented workers, as was attributed to Ronald Reagan “It’s the Economy, Stupid”. When the economy is good you say let’s all celebrate “Cinco de Mayo, my brothers” but when the economy is down “it’s all your fault, you damn immigrant”. This too will pass, the real problem is the narcos, arms and people smugglers and that’s what the focus should be on.

Today we are committed to a worldwide struggle to promote and protect the rights of all who wish to be free. In a time of domestic crisis men of good will and generosity should be able to unite regardless of party or politics and do what is right, not what is just popular with the majority. Some men comprehend discrimination by never have experiencing it in their lives, but the majority will only understand after it happens to them.

This is absolutely disgusting, Nasi hunt is correct. And, if you can do this, then you ALL must be NATIVE AMERICANS or you are also an immigrant. The human beings in this country are starting to really disgust me. Protest the war, not immigrants like yourself.

What happened to this once great country, and to moral president\’s standing up for the right thing……..gone, and all forgotten.

I\’m outta here, sooner the better. You all disgust me!
