Barack Obama is giving the commencement address Saturday at West Point. What will be his message to the next group of Army officers, many going directly to wars in Iraq or Afghanistan?
Recent wires service reports indicate that the Kandahar offensive, planned for June, may be postponed till fall due to difficulties there — people are in the streets protesting US killings of civilians — and here, where there is great controversy brewing.
The US military has already warned of increased deaths. But the debate, including inside the military, is about likely disastrous results for the Obama plan.
All the more reason for dissent and public protest against the occupation! Now, while there is disagreement at the top and in the military, our demand to end the occupation NOW must be heard.
