From Coast to Coast and Beyond – Protesting War and Torture

Posted on May 29, 2009
Share:

Throughout May – especially on May 28th, when Barack Obama was supposed to release the images of 2,000 photos of U.S. torture – protests took place from New York to Honolulu. Initial reports on these manifestations of opposition to the wars and torture begun during the years of the Bush Regime, and now continued and in many ways intensified during Obama’s tenure as president, have begun to come into World Can’t Wait. More will be coming soon – click here to read the first accounts.

Harvey: You \”don\’t remember Bush attacking anyone unprovoked\” because you are fucking moron who still believes that Iraq had WMDs. In reality, that was an unprovoked attack. So is torturing people who were rounded up by the Northern Alliance, not because they were involved in 9/11 or anything else, but to settle old scores. That\’s an unprovoked attack. In fact, the whole of US foreign policy is an unprovoked attack on the people of the world, in the interests of filthy rich scum who hate you just as much as they hate brown people.

The world looks however you want it to look when you believe whatever the fuck you want. That doesn\’t change actual reality though. It just makes you a fucking fool.

And if the government did actually have someone in custody that was part of a plot to attack the US within 24 hours, has it ever occurred to you that the people this person was working with would notice within a few hours or less that their co-conspirator was incommunicado and would therefore have to conclude that they were in custody and that therefore their plot\’s details would shortly be revealed from interrogation?

What would you do if you were one of these people? Wouldn\’t you immediately cancel your attack and disperse? You\’d be crazy not to. Your cover is blown and your attack will be foiled.

This is why the \”ticking time bomb\” scenario is false and being used as a ruse to fool people like yourselves into supporting the use of terror – i.e., torture – against others, including almost all of them, innocents.

Are you going to continue to believe falsehoods because you can\’t be bothered seeing clearly through lies? Are you going to back atrocities against innocent people because you can\’t think straight?

You people are ridiculous… as very clearly stated by someone above, these are terrorists… trying to kill Americans like you and me, they have secrets that may hold the key to the future of america\\\’s safety… and you complain of the methods used to get information out of them? Why don\\\’t you find yourselves a terrorist… I mean a really nasty one, who refuses to talk, and may know where a missle is that is aimed right at los angeles… What are you gonna try to do to make him talk? give him cookies? serenade him with kind words about how lovely he looks today? NO! these are people who live to kill americans, and destroy america. It is none of your damn business what goes on in prisons, ESPECIALLY when it is what guarantees your freedom and safety in this great country. If you people had your way, america would most likely be unsafe, and we would have weapons of mass destruction hitting us right now.

The government does what it does in the best intrest of America and the american people. weather that means torturing terrorists to get life-saving information from them… be thankful you live in a country that goes to such great lengths for you… IF YOU DON\\\’T LIKE IT, THEN LEAVE!

    Harvey:

    1) A major difference between Lincoln’s suspension of HC during part of the Civil War and now is that what Obama is doing is declaring that HC is indefinitely suspended for the duration of an endless war – the GWOT. It is also the first time in history that any president has declared the right to detain people indefinitely merely on the suspicion that they might do something, rather than what they have actually done. This is a truly radical step.

    2) If only US citizens have a right to challenge their detention then this makes any non-Americans fair prey for the predations of government. The large majority of the people who have been detained, tortured, and in at least 100 cases, murdered in custody, are not at war with the US (or at least, weren’t at war with the US before they were tortured). By the way, according to point 1 and Obama’s position, it doesn’t matter whether you’re an American citizen or not. If the gov’t deems you a threat, under his policy you can be detained indefinitely.

    3) If you don’t recall Bush ever attacking anyone unprovoked, then did you happen to notice the 2003 invasion of Iraq and the fact that due to our invasion over one million Iraqis have died who had nothing to do with 9/11?

Getting your facts from Fox News or whereever it is that you are getting your facts (or talking points) isn’t helping you come to terms with what’s really going on.

You people are really unbelievable. Firstly, you are ignorant. Habeus Corpus was suspended during the Civil War. This is not the first time in history. Secondly, the people held at U.S. military prisons who were arrested in Afghanistan are not American citizens and are therefore not protected by the Constitution. They are not common, home grown American criminals; they are at war with the U.S. Thirdly, you really need to think about accusing America of being the terrorist. I don\’t recall Bush ever attacking anyone unprovoked, but the Muslims sure did.

In any country except the U.S. you guys would be in political detention camps. Thankfully, our military people even defend the right to free speech of losers like you.
