Mission Statement of World Can’t Wait (Adopted 2009)

Posted on May 18, 2009
Share:

The World Can’t Wait organizes people living in the United States to repudiate and stop the fascist direction initiated by the Bush Regime, including: the murderous, unjust and illegitimate occupations of Iraq and Afghanistan; the global “war of terror” of torture, rendition and spying; and the culture of bigotry, intolerance and greed. This direction cannot and will not be reversed by leaders who tell us to seek common ground with fascists, religious fanatics, and empire. It can only be possible by the people building a community of resistance – an independent mass movement of people – acting in the interests of humanity to stop, and demand prosecution, of these crimes.

I strongly disagree with this website due to that every individual has a basic understanding of how the militray works. If they went and joined is because they knew what sruggles they would face during their time in the service. I say for those un patriotic soldiers that are whinning about the military , should have never joined because they are a disgrace to this nation “America”. !!!

Good for you for continuing to vocalize your objection to torture. Since (as you pointed out) Clinton began this practice of rendition, innocent Americans are at risk and have been illegally tortured and killed.

However, rather than blaming it all on Bush in your mission statement, aren’t you morally obliged to give credit where credit is due: to both Clinton and now Obama for continuing these practices?

I’m sure any any militant group will have this stuff in their writings. Some people need an excuse for their on failures. Blaming others is as old as the human race.

Right cause, wrong culprit. Obama and his fascist army make Bush and Cheney look like populists.

    Smartalek #12,
You sure talk a lot without having much substantive (beyond ad hominem attacks) to say, don\\\’t you? Clearly, you don\\\’t have control of your emotions and frankly aren\\\’t worth my time to debate. Cheers to you.

    @ Mike (#5):

As is so often the case when dealing with reichwingers, we can’t tell from your statement alone whether you’re being deliberately disingenuous (that means “lying”), or you’re just not terribly bright.
Guess what? The world is a tad more complicated than just the “Good Guys” and “Bad Guys” of your favorite teevee shows. To call out the existing power structure in the US for their failures, hypocrisies, and, yes, evildoing, does not, in fact, constitute hoping that “the Taliban and AlQaeda win.”
Amazingly enough, there are actually some people capable of recognizing that the world is more complex than that. There is no disagreement here that the world sought by psychotic adherents of a perverted, violent, extremist, and repressive form of an ancient and sometimes noble religion (whether it’s Islam, Christianity, Judaism, or Buddhism — they all have their psychos) is not a world that you, we, or any sensible person wishes to inhabit. There is no disagreement here that such people are very bad people indeed, who need to be fought and defeated.
What we don’t agree on is how. The 8 long years of the Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld approach proved beyond a doubt — as is acknowledged by the highest-ranked warriors in our military and the most senior and experienced intelligence/security professionals — that invading and occupying countries that posed no threat at the time, and perverting the justice system that the founding fathers carefully crafted for efficacy, openness, and the greatest probability of attaining actual justice, makes Americans less safe, not more so. Such actions create terrorists in greater numbers and faster than we can incarcerate or kill them.
And believe it or not, people here are also aware that “our guy,” Pres Obama, is making many of the same mistakes that the Bush junta did — and we’re calling him out on them, too.
If you can manage to look at the world as it is, rather than as your crazy uncle’s e-mails and FoxNews portray it, we’re actually all on the same side. We all want America, and all her citizens, to be kept safe, free, and prosperous. And if you look at the facts, and not the partisan propaganda, you’ll see that the ways being supported here will be more likely to attain that.
    Cheers.

    FYI.
The website looks fine in Windows, but in Firefox over MandrivaLinux 2009, it is poorly laid out (the top banner shows up all by itself and I have to scroll a screen’s length to the right to see the rest of the page).
There seems to be no way to communicate with the webmaster, so I’m mentioning it here.

I noticed there’s a few naysayers here. Yes, it would be nice to update the mission statement to be more timely with the current admin, but hey, you got more important things to do. Like helping the nation of fence sitters, obvoiusly feeling betrayed by Obummer, get off their butts and continue the press for an end to the war. It is quite apparent there are people trolling the anti-war web sites to spew their Limbaugh brains on the glass screen, but I enjoy reading their idiosities because I know the ones who have changed their minds. Once they lose their house, job, Dad, brother, sister, mind, leg, shoulder, from war, they begin to thnink about the real reason it happened. It wasn’t WMDs, or democracy for a nation, nor even toppling a dictator who wouldn’t play ball with oil corporations, it’s about getting control of the oil. The USGS has been in Afghanistan for years locating the trillion dollar resource under Afghan soil of oil and minerals. The increase of nuclear bomb funding by Obummer is the latest in the incredible masterminding by some impeialistic behind the scenes maniacs. These folks with their pathetic stabs at WCW is just funny in light of the possible demise of all.

Amazing … in any other country, like China, Venezuela, Cuba, Iraq, Iran, etc. … you would be hunted down, imprisoned and executed for writing such commentary against the government. It is ONLY because you are an American that you are allowed to express these opinions. THAT is what democracy is about. This freedom is what American solders die almost daily to protect.

    God Bless America and Democracy!

Why are YOU WAITING to change your mission statement? It’s an OBAMANATION NOW.

The FASCIST regime in this country was started way before Bush took office.

It became more apparant under Bush, but it has been slowly eating away at this country for decades.

Under Obama, NOTHING HAS CHANGED! Okay, that’s not true.

What has changed is that we now owe more money than we can ever pay. And we owe it to people who don’t like us very much.

When do you think they will “FORECLOSE”, eh?

Good luck, but what you should be standing up for are the freedoms guaranteed by the Constitution of the United States and that Govt only has 3 things it is actually ALLOWED to do …

    1) Provide for the common defense
    2) Regulate intra-state commerce
    3) CONTROL Communication

I find the last one odd, but it is in there.

Your group would rather see the Taliban and Al Qaeda win. That will do wonders for womens rights now, won’t it?

READ the mission statement – it is the fascist direction initiated by the Bush Regime. Of course Obama is President, but what has changed? Under Obama, billions more is being spent on occupations and wars for empire. Under Obama, indefinite detention and preventative detention are more prevalent. Under Obama and his call to seek common ground with the religious right, women are facing the worst assault on their right to decide when and if to bear children.
Yes, resistance has been sidetracked b/c many felt that the Obama presidency would end the war, would stop torture, would stand up for women’s rights – but that is not the case. And people are waking up to the truth. Stop the crimes of your government – the World Can’t Wait!

These people are delusional. It’ll take them a few years to figure that one out.
