ABC News has reported that dozens of top-secret talks and meetings in the White House, the most senior Bush administration officials discussed and approved specific details of how high-value al Qaeda suspects would be interrogated by the Central Intelligence Agency. These meetings were held by a “Principals Committee.”
The “Principals Committee,” was chaired by former National
Security Advisor Condoleeza Rice, and included Vice President Cheney,
Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld and Secretary of State Colin Powell,
as well as CIA Director George Tenet and Attorney General John
Ashcroft. Together they outlined and approved
the use of “combined” interrogation techniques — using different
techniques during interrogations, instead of using one method at a time
— on terrorist suspects who proved difficult to break, sources said.
Once again the world is forced to absorb more evidence of the outrageous behavior of the Bush regime: torture, rendition, pre-emptive aggressive war, illegal occupation, spying, eradication of human and civil rights, and the death of the Constitution, not to mention the human consequences of these actions. And now this latest outrage: these leaders sat and met to openly discuss torture techniques, to approve of them, and then work together to circumvent and manipulate the law so that the archaic and ineffective practice of torture, which is absolutely illegal, could then become “legal” and there would be no accountability for those who had approved it or practiced it.
Recently, The Pentagon made public a now-defunct legal memo that approved the use of harsh interrogation techniques against terror suspects, saying that President Bush’s wartime authority trumps any international ban on torture. Thus proving just how savage the Bush regime’s agenda is and how they will stop at nothing to achieve their goals.
Isn’t it long past time this regime was driven from power?
