In the face of opposition from people over the entire world, Bush brazenly declared his intention to continue his regime’s policy of torture. In the face of expectations that they do something to stop this, the supine Democratic party leadership once again is doing nothing to push forward measures to stop these unspeakably cruel practices, now.
Here’s the situation. Bush authorizes torture; Cheney says “damn right” the President can order torture; Congressional leadership blathers that this can be an “election issue” but allows the torture – in the name of the “security” of people in this country – to continue; Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia recently said that “torture is not necessarily the same as cruel and unusual punishment”. All three “branches of government” are in sync.
One true sentence was spoken by a Democrat (Bill Delahunt) on Saturday March 8 as Bush issued his threats to anyone who opposes US marauding, torture, and spying: “history is going to judge us all”.
How will history judge us? How will it judge you?
