A recent item reported by Jack Cafferty of CNN revealed that “buried deep” in Congressional legislation passed last fall absolved Bush and all members of his administration with “any possible crimes” connected to the torture of prisoners. http://youtube.com/watch?v=jHQ7Prwh7Gc The law is retroactive to September 11, 2001.
On January 29, new Bush legal apologist (i.e., Attorney General) Robert Mukasey said once again he isn’t sure whether waterboarding, a torture technique dating back at least to the Spanish Inquisition, amounts to torture. He wrote in a letter to a Senate committee that “it is not an easy question” to determine whether the technique is lawful. “There are some circumstances where current law would appear clearly to prohibit the use of waterboarding”. Other circumstances would present a far closer question.”
Here is some essential truth. Bush and others in his Regime are war criminals. They are responsible for the deaths of hundreds of thousands of people. They have organized a network of torture that spans the globe. They have brazenly absolved themselves of all their criminal activities. Democratic Party leaders have been fully complicit every step on every step of their murderous journey. Where is the outcry on the campaign trail, or in the halls of Congress, to have these murderers impeached, much less brought to trial for their monstrous crimes?
That outcry needs to be heard, coming from the people – manifested in political resistance and opposition in all corners of society.
