General Petraeus and U.S. Ambassador to Iraq Ryan C. Crocker
are in Washington this week to sell Congress
and the American people on the idea that the Bush regime needs more time to
show “success” in Iraq.
Of course “more time” means tens of thousands of more deaths and untold terror
for millions of Iraqis. But Petraeus and
Crocker while justifying continuing war in Iraq,
are also attempting to justify future war against Iran which could cost millions of
lives.
On September 10th after a day of appearing before Congress,
Crocker and Petraeus appeared on the Fox Propaganda Channel for an interview
with Fox propagandist, Brit Hume. In the
interview Crocker said this, “Iran’s
role is harmful. There are no two ways about it. They are supporting radical
militias. They are supplying the explosively formed projectiles that target our
troops as well as Iraqis. And they are playing a destabilizing role.”
Crocker claimed that the U.S.
is trying to be diplomatic with Iran.
He told Hume that he has met with his Iranian counterpart in Iran, “We”ve laid
out very clearly what our concerns are and said that what they need to do is
align practice on the ground with their stated policy of support for a stable,
democratic Iraq. I think you see a collision in Iran between their long-term
strategic interests and their narrow tactical desires.”
The General joined in the attack against Iran. He said that the Iranians
want to see the U.S. driven
out of Iraq. He accused the Iranian Republican Guard’s
Corps of training, equipping, arming, funding and directing terrorists in Iraq. Petraeus said, “When we captured the leaders
of these so-called special groups ” and the deputy commander of a Lebanese
Hezbollah department that was created to support their efforts in Iraq, we”ve
learned a great deal about how Iran has, in fact, supported these elements and
how those elements have carried out violent acts against our forces, Iraqi
forces and innocent civilians.”
He went on to accuse Iran
of providing rockets utilized in attacks on Baghdad’s
green zone where the U.S.
and Iraqi government is headquartered. The general claimed, “”Iran’s role in Iraq is very destructive. It is
something that Iraqis certainly would hope would be much more of a normal role
among countries, but one about which they have become very concerned in recent
months as they, along with us, have learned the extent of Iranian involvement.”
While these two Bush regime henchmen are presently engaged
in a propaganda campaign to prolong the Bush regime war against the Iraqi
people, they will also not miss a chance to tie that war into justification for
a future attack against Iran. Bush recently made a speech before the
American Legion where he also blamed Iran
for it interference in Iraq.
He demanded that, “The Iranian regime must halt these actions.” He
referred to Iran
22 times in his 45 minute speech. I
guess he missed the irony of a President of a nation with 160,000 troops in Iraq demanding that another government stop its
interference in Iraq.
But for Bush and his regime, interference with other nations is a “god-given”
right. And unless his regime is stopped
by massive resistance, Iran
will be next.
