When Bush went to meet a group of 50 high school students in the Presidential Scholars program at the White House, the students delivered Bush a letter urging him to stop “violations of human rights” of terror suspects detained by the US.
Bush, completely caught off-guard, responded with his usual false statement that “the United States does not torture and that we value human rights”.
Being selected for the Presidential Scholars program is one of the highest honors high school students can receive, and the fact that this group of students decided to use that to make a powerful statement against torture should be commended.
