So as the Congress the
American people entrusted in November to turn things around once again freezes
in their tracks by removing any timetables for troop withdrawal from the war
funding bill, Bush is once again turning the heat of fascism up. All this even
as some believe the Oval Office is burning down around him. On May 9th
he put into place National Security Presidential Directive/ NSPD 51 and
Homeland Security Presidential Directive/HSPD-20.
These directives give
Bush not only extensive executive power, but power over the federal government
in an event of a catastrophe i.e. terrorist attack or another Katrina. That
means that Congress has to do what he says. Somebody should tell him that as of
this week they”re doing what he says. These directives make him the insurer of
the Constitution. We already know what insuring any part of our Constitution to
Bush has wrought. Seems it wasn’t enough to secretly sign into law (the same
day he signed into law the Military Commissions Act) The John Warner Defense
Authorization Act, which gives him the power to declare Martial Law anytime and
anywhere he deems necessary. The U.S. body count at 3432 and nearly
a hundred Iraqis are dying by the week as I write this. People should be white
hot with outrage.
With all that said I
have to wonder why all these attempts at control and suppression. Could it be
that Bush is feeling the heat? I mean look, just a few short weeks ago Dennis
Kucinich introduced articles of impeachment for Bush’s VP, which now has three
co-sponsors. Then wouldn’t you know it he had all these big name people standing
on the steps of his capital demanding his impeachment. To add insult to injury
there were all these people in 100 places across the country spelling out I.M.P.E.A.C.H.
While the press coverage of these historic events, and they are indeed historic,
was not monumental you know as well as I that Bush is probably very aware of
them. I mean since the Regime likes to spy a lot I find it hard to believe that
the Bush Regime wouldn’t know. So no wonder Bush feels the need to make
directives like the one he did on May 9. Maybe Bush is feeling the flame of
truth licking at his heels and he is trying to turn the heat up on us. The Call says, “If we speak the truth, they
will try to silence us. If we act, they will try to stop us.”
This week, former
President Jimmy Carter, called this administration the worst in history. He
called the Regime out on its horrid foreign policy. So the White House
Spokesperson had to call Carter irrelevant. Curiously that was the same word
Tony Snow used to describe Cindy Sheehan last year. There was no need to back
track or clarify dissent, Mr. Carter. Cindy doesn’t feel the need to nor should
any of us. We need to fan the flames of dissent and we need our fiery anger. As
heartbreaking as every Bush crime has been and continues to be, my tears have
been dried up by the heat of my anger for quite some time. As intimidating as
these laws and directives can be somehow the chains of fear this Regime has
linked together slip from me with the perspiration of my burning outrage.
As I see it we don’t
have time to cry. We don’t have time to stand frozen in fear and despair. The
World Can’t Wait. All of us must continue to express our outrage. While
Congress is cold with cowardice, we in our millions must turn the heat up on
the Bush Regime. Hold town halls and impeachment hearings as planned and as
many as possible. Keep spelling out impeach. Keep getting the Call out. Stay
visible in the streets. Once again from the Call, “But we speak for the
majority, here and around the world, and as we get this going we are going to
reach out to the people who have been so badly fooled by Bush and we are NOT
going to stop.” We must not stop no matter what the Regime tries to pull. Let’s
make it a long hot summer for the Bush Regime and drive it out.
