What does it say about the state of American politics that a candidate for president could openly and enthusiastically call for doubling the amount of detainees to be sent to a known torture chamber and openly state that he doesn’t want “those people” getting fair access to lawyers?

If you were in Germany circa 1935 and the Nazi Party held a debate that was broadcast on television, and one of the candidates called for doubling the amount of people in the concentration camps, what would you do about it?
