Did the Dog Eat White House E-Mails?
By Kenneth J. Theisen, 4/12/07
In an excuse akin to the “dog ate my homework”, the White
House now claims that many e-mails sought by Congress in the investigation of
the Bush regime’s ouster of several U.S. Attorneys have been “lost.” On April 11, 2007 Bush regime officials
admitted mishandling Republican National Committee (RNC) email accounts used by
about 2 dozen White House aides including top administration officials. They claim they can not locate the e-mails.
The RNC established these e-mail accounts for Bush aides,
including top Bush adviser Karl Rove.
Allegedly this was done to circumvent the Hatch Act which bars federal
employees from engaging in political activities while on the government
payroll. But the question is whether it
was really done to keep the activities of these officials from Congressional or
public scrutiny. Under the Presidential
Records Act, presidential records and e-mails normally must be preserved and
eventually they are disclosed as required by law. But if these e-mail accounts are not
presidential records e-mails can be deleted and many apparently were.
Before this most recent disclosure, the Bush regime has
promised Congressional investigators that it would search aides” e-mails for
any information relevant to the firing to the U.S. attorneys. The administration stated that it would
provide these to the Senate and House Judiciary committees. The existence of these RNC e-mail accounts for
White House aides was accidentally discovered when the Department of Justice had
earlier released other documents related to the dismissals. One of these
earlier e-mails led investigators to these up-to-then secret e-mail accounts.
Since the beginning of this scandal, the Bush regime has
played “hide the ball” from Congress and the public. Each time they have been caught in lies, they
have come forward with another story or explanation. And each week and sometimes each day brings
forward new revelations. The regime
claims it had no political reasons behind the firings, but then why were top
aides to the president sending e-mail back and forth on RNC e-mail accounts? Why were the e-mails deleted? Just what are they trying to hide?
On April 17, 2007 Attorney General Gonzales is scheduled to
testify before Congress about the firings.
World Can’t Wait! will continue to follow the scandal as it
unfolds. What will the regime’s next
explanation be when it is caught in its next lie?
