Campus Speaking Tour This Semester:

Posted on January 18, 2007

Mission of a Generation: Stop the War Now! Drive Out the Bush Regime!

The World Can’t Wait is launching a speaking tour to campuses and
military bases across the country. We are leaving immediately. This is
an emergency. We are counting on everyone who knows that the arrogant
escalation of the Bush war is a turning point– and how we respond will
impact the whole world, one way or another, for years to come.

Speakers on the tour:

– LIAM MADDEN, a 22-year-old Marine Corps Sgt and co-founder of the Appeal for Redress
— the call signed by more than 1000 active-duty soldiers demanding
withdrawal of all troops and bases from Iraq. Liam, who served as a
communications specialist in Iraq, has appeared in major media across
the country this past week, from the LA Times to the Army Times,
speaking out on the Appeal which was delivered to Congress on Tuesday:
” It is time for U.S. troops to come home” Not one more of my brothers
should die for a lie. This is my generation’s call to conscience.”

– SUNSARA TAYLOR, writer and member of the Advisory Board of World Can’t Wait– Drive Out the Bush Regime. On the opening day of Congress
this past January 4, she could be found leading a protest in front of
the Capitol, speaking at the National Press Club with Dan Ellsberg, and
debating Bill O’Reilly about the war on his national TV show “O’Reilly Factor.” She has spoken on more than 50 campuses and is a writer for Revolution newspaper, Truthdig.com, Counterpunch, org and other media outlets. Her articles on BattleCry were the first to expose the militaristic stadium events that draw tens of thousands of young people. “I’ve
watched Sunsara Taylor stand her ground against the odious Bill
O’Reilly on his show and make her points with power and eloquence
.”– Howard Zinn

– ELAINE BROWER
is the mother of a Marine recently returned from Fallujah. She is an
activist against the war with World Can’t Wait – Drive Out the Bush
Regime and Military Families Speak Out.

Elaine’s story and interviews have appeared in the NY Daily News, NY
Newsday, NY Times, and she has appeared on Good Morning America, Montel
Williams Show, NBC Nightly News, NY1, NOVA TV from the Netherlands, TV
Asahi from Tokyo, and numerous radio programs nationwide.

When Nixon said he”d end the war by escalating it to Cambodia in May
1970, campuses across the nation were shut down in the largest student
strike in the history of this country. This is something the purveyors
of war for empire fear…

In the wake of Bush’s recent
speech, the campuses are appallingly quiet. But it is an intense calm.
This tour aims to lift the lid by bringing the truth, including an
eyewitness report on the debacle in Iraq from recently returned Marine,
Liam Madden.

” Mission of a Generation” will also take its
daring message to military bases around the country. It’s an open
secret that there are countless soldiers who want to connect with GI’s
who are refusing to be mercenaries for empire and are saying no “

The ” Mission of a Generation: Stop the War Now! Drive Out the Bush
Regime!” speaking tour will put out the challenge directly to youth and
students:

Will we be remembered as the generation who sat back
and allowed illegal wars to spread throughout the Middle East, torture
legalized, the rights of women and gays eviscerated, and a fascistic
police-state constructed? Or will we refuse to go along with this? Will
we lead millions to erupt in political protest and defiant
truth-telling? Will we make it our mission to bring the crimes of the
Bush regime to a halt!?

The Tour begins this week
at New York University and other New York City campuses as part of
building for the January 27th anti-war protests in D.C. From there it
will travel to Chicago, the Bay Area, the Los Angeles area, Washington
State, Washington D.C., Philadelphia, Boston, Atlanta, Wisconsin,
Texas, Virginia and North Carolina.

If you are in one of
these areas and would like to book or help promote an event OR if you
would like to bring this tour to another area, contact us immediately
at speakingtour@worldcantwait.org.

There is little else that
will have greater impact in bringing millions out into the streets to
stop the war and drive out the Bush Regime than rousing a determined
political movement among students and young people.

This
could be the tour that unlocks our moment, bridging the gap between
70+% who hate where things are going, but are not yet acting.

Transportation, promotion, materials and other costs of this tour will come to $65,000.
