STOP THE WAR NOW!
IMPEACH BUSH FOR WAR CRIMES!
Join
World Can’t Wait in Washington DC and on the west coast on Saturday January
27 th. Join us in raising a concrete and realizable goal for 2007:
Impeach Bush for War Crimes!
An escalation of the Iraq war will mean more of this: Fallujah after an airstrike

Bush’s New Strategy: An ESCALATION of the War What’s missing from the debate over the Iraq war? But if we pull out, won’t it just be chaos? Ron Kovic: Surging Past the Tipping Point Must watch DVD:Documents the war crimes committed by the Bush administration. |
George Bush has a dramatic and risky plan to escalate and expand the
war, not all of which he’s revealed. As he was speaking last Wednesday,
US forces went into Kurdish territory, broke into an Iranian diplomatic
building, and seized files and people, in violation of the sovereignty
of both Iran and the Kurdish region – a clear provocation. Now, 3
aircraft carriers are in the Persian Gulf. As someone said at the World
Cant” Wait national meeting this past weekend, “this is the start of another
war, not just the expansion of this one.”
There is no
way a president who has committed war crimes and crimes against
humanity should be in office. Now he’s pledged to commit more and worse
– he is moving towards war with Iran. A president who has no popularity
and little legitimacy should have none.
Sign up below – 500 people in Washington DC are needed.
Will people march and then go home, thinking that Congress has the
power to act, and now we”ve done our job to pressure them to do theirs? Or, will many thousands leave with the startling recognition that our
only hope is to take history into our own hands? Will they leave
knowing what to do to organize a movement to impeach Bush and
Cheney on the basis of the war crimes they have already committed? And
that this is the only way to end this war?
1) Find hundreds of new organizers and enlist them for
immediate political action across the country, including teach-ins and a campus
speaking tour February/March. Help distribute 100,000 copies of the our Call
to Drive Out the Bush Regime and 5,000 signs and stickers saying “IMPEACH
BUSH for WAR CRIMES!” and “DRIVE OUT THE BUSH REGIME”
2) Join us to form a contingent wearing orange jumpsuits to
represent the detainees at Guantanamo
Bay, who can now be
legally tortured and denied habeas corpus under the Military Commissions Act.
“Can’t the United States see that when we allow someone
to be tortured by our agents, it is not only the victim and the perpetrator who
are corrupted, not only the ‘intelligence’ that is contaminated, but also
everyone who looked away and said they did not know, everyone who consented
tacitly to that outrage so they could sleep a little safer at night, all the
citizens who did not march in the streets by the millions to demand the
resignation of whoever suggested, even whispered, that torture is inevitable in
our day and age, that we must embrace its darkness?”
— Ariel Dorfman, “Are We Really So Fearful?”
The Bush Regime is openly torturing people, and justifying
it. The Bush Regime has codified torture
and stands as the most powerful purveyor of torture in the world today. For the last five years this regime has been
holding over a thousand people at Guantanamo
Bay U.S.
military prison without charges. They
have dramatically expanded the scope of who they can detain to include people
anywhere in the world, including within the U.S. People can now be declared an “unlawful
enemy combatant” simply for providing what the president decides is
“material,” including financial or indirect support for hostilities
against the U.S. Torture practices at Abu Ghraib and the secret
renditions have now been written into law.
The basic and fundamental right of due process has been officially
shredded.
On January 27th, thousands of people will be in DC to demand
End to the Iraq
war. Systematic and widespread practice
of torture by the U.S.
is a crime against humanity. When people
say no to war we must make visible that people living in this country say NO to
Torture perpetrated by their government.
The message that “Torture
+ Silence = Complicity”
needs to be part of the outpouring on Jan. 27. Sign up below to take part.
