Protest of Bush Troop Surge Announcement
END THE WAR NOW! – Drive Out the Bush Regime

Thursday Jan. 11, National Protests Against War in Iraq + International Day of Action To Shut Down Guantanamo

Protests will take place across the country on January 11. In New York:

  • Times Square, 6-7 pm, End the war in Iraq! Activists will wear orange
jumpsuits to protest the war and torture in Iraq, and treatment of
    detainees
  • Foley Square, Noon to 1:30 pm, vigil to close U.S. detention facility
in Guantanamo. Stop the torture! Look for orange jumpsuits.
  • Staten Island, 6-8 pm, Borough Hall (across from Ferry Terminal) End the war in Iraq!

On Thursday, the day after Bush announces a troop surge to Iraq of
20,000 or more troops, activists from the World Can’t Wait – Drive Out
the Bush Regime will protest with thousands of others at military
recruitment centers in cities around the country and at the U.S.
Supreme Court in Washington DC.

DEBRA SWEET, national coordinator of World Can’t Wait– Drive Out
the Bush Regime: “A ‘troop surge is Bush-speak for escalation. He is
stepping up an illegal, immoral and unjust war, and the people have to
get out in the streets and put a stop to it. The politicians have
proved incapable of doing so.”

Interviews are available with Debra Sweet and other WCW spokespeople:

  •  SUNSARA TAYLOR, debated Bill O’Reilly Jan. 4 about the war on “O’Reilly Factor”
  •  LARRY EVEREST, author of “Oil, Power and Empire: Iraq and the US Global Agenda”
  •  ELAINE BROWER, whose son recently returned from Fallujah
  •  TRAVIS MORALES, DC organizer, frequent commentator in SPANISH-SPEAKING media

Media interviews available with above speakers at the Time Square action, and by phone.

World Can’t Wait will also join Witness Against Torture at the US
Supreme Court in Washington in an International Day of Action To Shut
Down Guantanamo on January 11, the day that marks 5 years of
imprisonment, isolation and abuse for the men held in this prison.
