Final verdict from the Bush Crimes Commission.

Fallujah after an airstrike

Bodies of some of the at least 20 Iraqis, including 6 women and 5 children, killed by the US on Dec. 8

War crimes, torture, and crimes against humanity.  Bush is guilty of all of these, and they are impeachable offenses and violations of international law.

  • The Bush administration knowingly lied before the world to justify the war, claiming there were weapons of mass destruction in Iraq and that Iraq had connections with al-Qaeda.  A doctrine of pre-emptive war and regime change was used on Iraq – which is illegal under international law.  War crimes have been committed in the conduct of this war – from the use of white phosphorous chemical weapons, indiscriminate bombings of cities, declaring Fallujah (a city of 350,000) a “free fire” zone, destroying the infrastructure of the country, and conducting massacres of civilians – with the latest leaving at least 20 Iraqi people dead in Ishaqi on 12/8/06.
  • The Bush administration has systematically carried out torture.  What was seen in the pictures of Abu Ghraib was not the actions of a handful of soldiers, but stemmed from orders at the highest levels of government.  Since those pictures came to light, reports of torture have continued, from military detention centers in Iraq and Afghanistan to CIA “black sites” to the concentration camp at Guantanamo Bay.  Bush administration officials have drawn legal documents justifying the use of torture, and now this has been codified as law in the Military Commissions Act of 2006.

  • The Bush administration has blatantly violated the law and gutted key provisions of the US Constitution and the rule of law itself.  The Military Commissions Act has effectively gutted the right of habeas corpus, with a federal judge ruling Dec. 13 that Guantanamo  detainees no longer have the right to challenge their detentions in federal court because of the MCA.  The NSA program of secretly wiretapping Americans without warrants is in blatant violation of the Constitution.  Dissent is subject to suppression and punishment, journalists are given subpoenas for reporting the truth, and Arab, Muslim, and South Asian immigrants have been subjected to round-ups, detentions without trial, racial-profiling, and registrations.  The Bush administration has acted through its own dictates to impose increasing police state measures which place sole power in the executive branch.

All this is only a brief description of the actual impeachable offenses the Bush administration is guilty of.  The Bush Crimes Commission, through hearings with expert testimony, eyewitnesses, and documentation released its verdict last September, finding the Bush administration guilty of war crimes and crimes against humanity.  To understand the scope, magnitude, and verdict on these crimes, we strongly suggest you check out the following:

  • The powerful testimony heard by the Bush Crimes Commission, which is available on DVD for sale, and on their website, http://www.bushcommission.org/.  This needs to be seen by millions of people in this country.
  • The final verdict from the Bush Crimes Commission, which lays out just why the Bush administration is guilty of war crime and crimes against humanity.  You can download a pdf or order a copy here: http://www.bushcommission.org/?q=node/26.

Other resources to check out on worldcantwait.org:

  • Fact sheets on each “Your Government” indictment from the Call to Drive Out the Bush Regime, including on war and torture.

  • The latest outrages committed by the Bush regime in our News & Outrages section.

Any objective look into whether this regime has committed war crimes, torture, and crimes against humanity, and as such should be impeached, will conclude with a resounding “Yes”.  But Congress, including the newly elected Democratic majority, has refused to recognize or act on this.  It is up to us to act – to show to millions of people just what the Bush administration is guilty of, and demand that Congress impeach, now.  The evidence is all there, documented, and proven.
