With the rise in DoD figures estimating over 10,000 military personnel AWOL, and the increase in military resistance within the ranks of active duty, reserve and guard service members, World Can’t Wait is joining with Gold Star Families for Peace, CodePink and IVAW to show our support for these service members” concern about the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq. The “Appeal for Redress” initiative by active duty service members based in the Norfolk area, provides a way individual service members can appeal to their Congressional Representatives and Senators to urge an end to the U.S. military occupation. Almost 2000 active duty members have signed onto the appeal!
Click on the link below to read a note from one of the co-founders of the Appeal for Redress Initiative, Liam Madden, USMC Sgt.
World Can’t Wait is calling for participants in our community to get
involved with outreach to the troops. The anti-war sentiment across
this Country has reached a fever pitch, and we must keep mobilizing not
only to bring an end to this illegal and immoral occupation, but an end
to the Regime in power! We have marched in the streets, disrupted
political events, held press conferences, donned orange jumpsuits in
defiance of torture, and now we must lock arms with those dissenters in
the military who want out of Iraq, NOW!
These soldiers, marines, sailors and airmen are resisting in a fashion
that when coupled with the anti-war movement, can drive home the
message we have been promoting to end the war NOW! They will be
putting pressure on those in Washington, D.C. They are telling their
Congress members and the White House that they have seen the horrors of
this war and occupation and want an end to it.
WCW is calling on our members and those who want to help in this
action to sign up now. Help reach out to military bases by
participating in next week’s actions around the Country. We are proud
to support the efforts of the military resisters by joining forces with
Gold Star Families for Peace, CodePink, and IVAW in a campaign to help
spread the word by delivering care packages filled with information
about the Appeal to military bases. This campaign will be ongoing, but
now we are working to help gather as many signatures as possible before
the end of the year since the Appeal will be delivered to Congress in
January of 2007.
This Sunday, December 17th on “60 Minutes” you can hear Liam Madden’s
message. Please take time to watch and understand the plea of these
soldiers and marines.
