In the two years since the last national election, the Bush Regime has moved aggressively to impose a new imperial social order on the world, and on this country. Right now, we live in a world of wars that the political leaders of this regime declare will “last our lifetime”, and have already taken 100’s of thousands of lives; we live in a world where torture has been legitimized by the highest authorities; a world where domestic spying is routine, and people have to “watch what they say”; a world in which open theocrats are routinely appointed to the courts; a world in which the key foundations of the legal system have been undermined and people can be imprisoned indefinitely solely on the President’s say so. The fascistic direction described in the Call to Drive Out the Bush Regime has escalated dangerously in the past two years – indeed, in the past two months.
Many people are looking to the midterm elections as a way to at least put a check on some of this. Many people’s hopes, energies, and resources into getting a Democratic majority in Congress. But the political terms of this election do not provide a means for the Bush agenda to be stopped.
The following collection of articles on worldcantwait.org provides insight and analysis into the suffocating political terms of this election, the refusal of the Democrats to oppose the Bush agenda in any fundamental way, and the need for a movement that stops taking its orders from the Democratic Party and acts to drive the Bush Regime from power. Whether and how you will vote on November 7th is not the issue here. What is at issue is how this regime and the whole direction it is taking the world will be stopped.
