175-200 people gathered in Monterey on October 5. Started at 12:00 noon, there were still 35 people at 8:00pm singing and drumming. There was a very diverse turn out: teachers, doctors, other professional people, a few high school youth, retirees, and veterans. Some came from Monterey Jr College. Some came from DLI (Defense Language Institute), where military service members study foreign languages, partly because they had been told NOT to come (not clear who told them not to). Very positive response from people driving by, lots of supportive honking. The organizer was able to go on the local radio staion almost everyday the week before the rally. The radio covered the rally live on the 5th.
