Downtown Fitchburg, Massachusetts was the site of a small but valiant outcry against the crimes of the Bush Regime on October 5, 2006. People from age 7 to senior citizens, the able and the disabled, gathered to hold up their signs and discuss the difficulties of living under fascist rule. “Bush is a national disgrace” read a large fabric banner. Anti-war signs lined the grassy common. A little blonde girl in a flowered dress held up a small sign reading, “Bush Is A Traitor” as she bragged to fellow protesters that the sign’s wording was her own idea. The protest’s organizer sat in his wheelchair, talking to people and holding a sign that warned citizens to be aware of the actions of the American military/industrial complex. At one police van marked, “Dept. of Homeland Security” drove by, eliciting speculation and some nervous laughter from the protesters, and then, still holding their signs, they went back to discussions of Iraq, fascism, and the prescience of George Orwell.
Thanks for bringing America together!
