In the heavy daytime car and pedestrian traffic over 200 people lined the streets of New Haven with banners, signs, a street theater performance, drumming and chants. At a prime corner of Yale and the New Haven community the scene became electrified with the Call that the Bush Regime be driven from power. There were times that the honking from the cars and the chants and drumming by the people took on a cascade effect as the street theater performance drew passing people to get involved.
The gathering of people came from New Haven with a large portion
coming from many of the smaller towns and communities in Connecticut.
There was a large group of youth from a local high school and several
carloads of students from Wesleyan University in Middletown, CT. In
talking to the people there was often the feeling that they had not
attended a demonstration before but really see that “things need to
change and we just needed to come.” There were also people with their
families and all members were eager to take the posters, etc.
A march went through the Yale campus and through the downtown
section of New Haven ending at the New Haven Green. A the rally on the
Green the statement from WCW was read and people came up to voice their
feelings on why Bush Regime must be driven from power. This included a
Palestinian rights activist, students from the high school and
universities and others. A committee member went through the people
with a sign-up sheet and got two pages of contact information.
