Protests in Chicago and San Francisco drew
thousands despite attempts by authorities to deny permits and shut down the
rallies.
In Chicago,
the city refused to grant a march route through the loop in a blatant move to
make the protest as unnoticeable as possible.
The police and media then put out wrong information about the time and
permit status of the protest. In the
face of this, thousands turned out in downtown Chicago to express their determination to
drive out the Bush regime.
In San Francisco, organizers
had a site permit for the rally in Justin
Herman Plaza
for from 4 to 7 p.m., but city and police officials kept shutting off their
sound system. After all-day rallies and
a march in downtown San Francisco, protests are
continuing through the night in San
Francisco.
