Bush protest planned for Thursday
(New York – WABC, October 4, 2006) – Demonstrators plan a large protest against the Bush administration at noon Thursday at the United Nations, followed by an afternoon march to Union Square.
Protestors say they were told by the NYPD that they will only be permitted to stay in Union Square until 6 p.m.
The protestors plan to go to court this morning to challenge the police department’s decision.
As of now, protestors will gather at the United Nations for a noon rally at Dag Hammerskjöld Plaza, followed by a march to Union Square to rally at 4 p.m.
The Manhattan protest coincides with 190 demonstrations across the country, where protestors plan to walk out of work and school.
Organizers expect large crowds because of public dissatisfaction with the war in Iraq, controversies over the administration’s handling of terrorism suspects and its response to global warming.
This is the second round of national protests planned by her group. The organization staged anti-Bush demonstrations in 70 cities in November 2005.
