Pentagon Papers leaker Daniel Ellsberg, “The
Color Purple” author Alice Walker, poet Elmaz Abinader and the Coup’s Boots
Riley top the list of speakers at “An Evening of Conscience,” 7 p.m. Monday at
Oakland’s Grand Lake Theater. The benefit event supports World Can’t Wait
(www.worldcantwait.org), the political organization calling for a global day of
protest, A Day of Mass Resistance, scheduled for Thursday.
Tickets for “An Evening of Conscience,” sold on a sliding scale ($15-$50),
are available at the door or by calling the San Francisco office of World Can’t
Wait at (415) 864-5153.
Meanwhile, Ellsberg on Thursday was named a recipient of this year’s Right
Livelihood Award, sometimes referred to as the “alternative Nobel Peace Prize.”
