Why Are You Walking Out on Oct 5th?

Posted on October 1, 2006
Share:

Statements are coming in from High School students from around the country about why they are walking out on October 5th.  Send us a letter about why you are walking  out to: youth_students@worldcantwait.org.

My name is Taylor, and I go to school in  Lehigh Acres, FL. On Oct. 5th, I will be walking out of school, in protest of what the Bush Regime has done to this country. Everyday, conditions here become worse as the Neo-Conservatives work to create a theocratic nation, where citizens are patronized and harrassed based on their beliefs.

Everyday, the same sun rises, but things change ever so slightly. The president, and his Regime of Nazi-esque robots are working harder to bring us fear of false ‘evils’, to tell us we’re doomed, to take away our rights, and shove their fascist foots down our fucking throats. They are trying to defy what America is all about.. Indivuality, Freedom, and the pursuit of happiness, unadultered by what God deems decent or wrong.

Today is October 5th. Today, I am not standing for the pledge, I am not sitting, thinking America is fine, thinking I’m safe in my cage. I am fighting the system that is working harder than ever to confine us. I am being a true American, standing up for what I believe in, and fighting, in my own way, what I see as EVIL.

In times like this, being a patriot means fighting injustices.

FUCK THE BUSH REGIME, FUCK WHAT THEY’RE DOING, AND FUCK WHAT THEY STAND FOR. IM FIFTEEN, AND IM GOING TO MAKE A FUCKING DIFFERENCE!

WHO THE FUCK IS WITH ME?

Indianapolis H.S Student

Of all the things we learn in school, the most improtant thing is democracy. Every day we have to pledge our allegiance to a flag, and every day we are told how lucky we are to be Americans, but every day we are encouraged to stay out of politics. Why am I walking out? Because its fucking American.

Brian

I say the pledge everyday, I pause for a moment of silence, I sit in social studies to learn about this country, I’m taught to be proud of who I am and where I came from, but with this arrogant, lying, corrupted son-of-a-bitch in office, we have no freedom. IF YOU WANT TO BE AMERICAN WALK OUT ON OCTOBER 5. ITS THE LAND OF THE FREE AND THE HOME OF THE BRAVE. BE FREE, BE BRAVE. JOIN THE REST OF THE COUNTRY.
– Brian

I am leaving school tomorrow early in terms of my classes and late in terms of what should have been done a long time ago. I’m leaving school tomorrow because its time for my generation to stop being told of our future, and put our voices into it instead.

-Rosie

I’m leaving school on October 5th because I oppose torture. The Geneva Convention was made in order to stop things like mass torture from ever happening again. According to Bush, because he’s president, he makes the rules and no one tells him what to do. This man has more power than he, or anyone else on the planet deserves. No man (or woman) should be able to say “waterboarding” is not toture, but just interogation. This man obviously does not know the meaning of torture, and nor do his government buddies. If they did, they would have voted against torture and made the world a better palce for us all. Be smart, and get out of school tomorrow.

What good is my education going to be if I have to go off and fight in Iran?

Ivan Espinosa, a high school student in Houston, TX

I am sick and tired of the lies and corruption of Bush and his cronies. As said by our founding fathers, it is the responsibility of the citizenry to hold their leaders accountable. I believe that the Bush administration is driving this country in the wrong direction…. Enough is enough and I want to support a group that is working to protest and counter the Bush agenda.

It is hard to campaign in a red state. I’m in Houston, which is not as red as the rest of the state. But I believe no matter where you are, you must get active some way or another and work to accomplish political change. Determination is the key to achieving your goals.

Sean, 14, Freshman, Methuen High School, Methuen, MA.

I’m walking out of my high school on October 5th because to me, the value of a government not based on tyranny and facism far outweighs the value of a day in the biased, brainwashing institution that is the American public school system. I and several of my friends are walking out in defiance of our “leader” Mr. George W. Bush and of the controversial legislation S 3930 that will effect me and my peers greatly, as the next generation of American citizens. That is why I’m walking out.

Kyle, Centralia, Washington

Hello, my name is Kyle from Centralia, Washington and this is why I’m marching October the 5th: Why am I walking out October 5th? I’m walking to prove intelligence is not limited by arrogance, and that ignorance is not right just because its mainstream. This country is supposed to be a Democracy, which means everyone has a choice, and say on what happens, yet every time someone says something liberal they are looked down upon. So to all you facist assholes who believe war is good, especially a war full of manipulative farbrication and lies, that is fought so a few corporations (Halliburton Exxon-Mobil andPfizer Inc for example) can take advantage of poor middle eastern countries. Fuck You

– Kyle

Why am I walking out?

Well when else in my life, or any future generation will we have the right of free speech at all? If we don’t stop this now, THAT may just be our horrible reality.

Dan, Chicago

I’m walking out because I have something to say to the world. I don’t care that anyone tells me nothing going on in the world matters. They don’t know anything that goes on in the world. Kids always say “they don’t care.” People will only care once they get arrested and locked up for saying “Bush sux” just because that’s the cool thing to do. No one is going to stand up for anyone, so whoever cares, we have to stand up and do all the work to save this nation and the world.

I’ve been bringing up Oct. 5 to people about once a week since last

March or April when I first found out about it, and more recently (this summer and September,” I’ve been bringing up Oct. 5 all the time since my friends are always joking, “Dan, go get off your ass and do something good, let’s go protest Bush.” Hopefully I can lead some of my friends to come with me, but nothing is going to stop me from doing my own part, since my life is my business and the world needs a lot of help.

– Dan, 15, Chicago

Conrad, Northern California

I am organizing this walk out to counter the military recruitment that is going on at my school. I wanted to raise awareness about it and provide an alternative voice of peace and dissent that is becoming so hard to find in the mainstream. I am also organizing this because i care about our planet and the future of our species.

WALK OUT FOR PEACE ON OCT 5th.

If you like George Bush, then stay in school on Oct 5th, because there will be a nationwide protest against War, corporate greed, and the fascist policies of the Bush administration on Thursday, Oct the 5th, 2006.

Students will be walking out of their classes and marching down to the park on highway 20. So if you are against war and you care about the future of our world and species, and then please join us in this nationwide walk out on Thursday, October the 5th, 2006, right after lunch at 12:55. And please help get the word out.

The penalty for exercising our first amendment rights in this walk out is a detention. But please don’t be intimidated by these fear tactics.

If military recruiters have the right to walk around campus and get kids to sign their life away to fight for Exxon Mobil, Halliburton, and all the other corporations who profit off of this war in a Iraq, then we have a right to counter that and exercise our rights that are guaranteed by the first amendment of the constitution to protest for peace. This nationwide walk out is being organized by www.worldcantwait.org
