Western Michigan University News, Sept. 29, 2006

KALAMAZOO–Scott Ritter, former United Nations weapons inspector
in Iraq, will talk about his new book, “Target Iran: The
Truth About the White House’s Plans for Regime Change,”
in a free, public presentation beginning at 4 p.m. Thursday,
Oct. 5, in the Dalton Center Recital Hall at Western Michigan
University.

Ritter’s talk is one of several Oct. 5 activities sponsored
by the WMU student chapter of World Can’t Wait, as part of its
parent organization’s “Day of Resistance.”

Day of Resistance activities are part of Peace Week
at WMU and begin with a rally from noon to 3:30 p.m. at the WMU
flagpoles in the center of West Campus. Dr. Ronald C. Kramer,
WMU professor of sociology, is scheduled to be among the speakers
at the rally, which also will include poetry reading and accoustic
music.

Activities shift to the Dalton Center for Ritter’s 4 p.m.
presentation, after which, those attending can participate in
a protest march from the WMU campus to Bronson Park in downtown
Kalamazoo. Events planned in Bronson Park include additional
speeches, poetry and performances by three local bands: Dali
Rocket, Nice Try and Offbeats.

Ritter was the United Nation’s top weapons inspector in Iraq
until 1998, when he resigned, charging that the administration
of President Bill Clinton was deliberately obstructing the weapons
team’s efforts. In recent years, he has been an outspoken and
controversial critic of U.S. foreign policy in the Middle East,
most particularly the U.S. invasion and occupation of Iraq.
