Bush’s national security strategy report continues a course of
pre-emptive military strikes in an endless war on the world.
While the open torture, bombings of civilians, and other war crimes
committed in Iraq are reason enough to drive out the Bush regime, what
makes all this worse is that it’s part of a whole global strategy set
to last for generations.
This national security strategy aggressively asserts a policy of
military attacks not for self-defense, but to prevent the rise of
anything perceived as a potential threat by the regime in power.
We have seen what this meant in Iraq, with fabrications of weapons of
mass destruction used to justify an invasion, after which no threat
from Iraq was found. While Bush attempts to present lofty
ambitions of democracy and freedom in his report, in reality of this
national security strategy has meant atrocities like CIA rendition of
detainees to countries like Uzbekistan that practice systematic torture
during interrogation.
What makes this doctrine, which flies in the face of international
law, all the more threatening is its permanence. Bush made clear
that this strategy would be long-term, with new wars being waged and a
permanent US military presence around the world. In the same
breath, he floated direct threats to Iran and other countries.
Those who don’t want to live in a new Rome should recognize the
danger and consequences of Bush’s national security strategy for the
people of the world, and do everything to stop its further
implementation.
