Your government enforces a culture of greed, bigotry, intolerance and ignorance.
Universities are being forced to dismantle affirmative action programs due to a Justice Department lawsuit. The lawsuit
forced Southern Illinois University to allow nonminorities and men
access to a graduate program originally designed to give a chance to
minorities and women to advance in higher education (which is still
disproportionately white and male). Other universities are following
suit because of threats by both the Bush administration and right-wing
groups like the Center for Equal Opportunity (which turns the reality
of racism and discrimination upside down). The fact that Roberts and
Alito are now on the Supreme Court gives further impetus to these legal
moves to get rid of affirmative action and reverse victories of the
civil rights movement.
Will you accept a situation where any of the gains people made in
the 1960’s are turned around, and all of this is pushed ahead both by
far-right groups claiming to want “fairness” in academia, and by
official government policy? Or will you resist this whole program?
