Over 10,400 mobile homes intended for use by
Hurricane Katrina evacuees were revealed to be sitting unused and
rotting out in an airport in Hope, Arkansas – because Bush has not
signed any executive order or bill that would allow the use of the
trailers in areas deemed to be floodplains.
Hundreds of millions of dollars of hurricane
recovery funds were spent on the purchase and storage of these mobile
homes in the aftermath of hurricane Katrina, but six months later they
remain in storage even as FEMA is about to throw Katrina victims out of
their temporary housing and many refugees are still living in tents in
the floodplain areas.
