How do I describe January 31st in Houston–Awesome!
In Houston we had about 250 people, a diverse group, as well as a wide range of prominent Houston progressives who spoke. We had mothers with their children mixed in with the punk crowd; high school and college students marching along with Katrina evacuees and prominent Houston progressives talking with first time protesters. It was simply awesome.
We focused our attention on our local CBS affiliate, who had no choice but to come out and film us. We were so loud that I could feel the vibrations on the ground.
And the energy; the energy level grew and stayed so high that once we all marched back to our rally site, scores of people were signing up to go to DC, donating money, taking organizing packets and stickers, and just talking with one another; realizing that there is more work to do to get the word out in Houston.
I have no doubt that will happen. World Can’t Wait in Houston has made a name for itself in and we are only going to get stronger from here.
