“Your government suppresses the science that doesn’t fit its
religious, political and economic agenda, forcing present and future
generations to pay a terrible price.”
The Bush regime is giving much of its $15 billion AIDS program to
fundamentalist groups who preach “abstinence only”, putting millions at
grave risk. As an AIDS epidemic sweeps through Africa, this
regime would rather use it as an opportunity to preach its twisted
“moral values” rather than save people’s lives. Effective AIDS
prevention groups are losing funds, while Christian fundamentalist
groups, like one run by Billy Graham’s son, are getting the money
despite having no experience and no intent to promote condom use.
Bush’s “prevention” strategy is called ABC, meaning abstinence,
being faithful, condoms; and you can guess what gets emphasis.
And part of the guidelines for AIDS prevention groups receiving funds
is that while those distributing condoms must talk about abstinence,
those preaching abstinence do not have to mention condoms. All
this has taken Africa to a situation where millions are needlessly
suffering and dying from AIDS dues to Bush’s policy, and traditional
roles for women are only being reinforced.
