This is a letter from a High School Teacher encouraging other teachers to support the actions and demonstrations planned for Jan. 31st and Feb.4th to demand Bush Step Down and take your program with you.
DRIVERS: CUT AND REPASTE THIS INTO EMAILS TO TEACHERS AND
POST IT TO LIST SERVES
WHERE THEY MIGHT SEE IT. OTHERS COULD USE
IT TO SEND TO TEACHERS AND ANY OTHER
SCHOOLS YOU WANT TO
REACH TEACHERS. A HIGH SCHOOL TEACHER HELPED WITH THE
WORDING TO MAKE IT AS EFFECTIVE AS POSSIBLE. LET’S GET IT OUT
FAR AND WIDE.
STATE OF THE UNION OR STATE OF EMERGENCY??
EDUCATE YOUR
STUDENTS
Teachers open the door for new generations to walk through. Rarely can they offer them a
chance to shape history, but now is one of those momentous times. For instance, on
MLK’s
birthday this year, Al Gore warned of the grave and irreversible dangers posed by
‘a truly
breathtaking expansion of executive power’ by the Bush Administration. Students need and have
every right to engage this looming reality and decide what course
of action they will take.
A recent full page ad in the New York Times demanded ‘Bush Step Down’ and called for
demonstrations on the night of Bush’s State of the Union address, Tuesday, January 31st.
The
ad featured a powerful indictment signed by U.S. Rep. Maxine Waters; Rev. Al
Sharpton; Studs
Terkel; Sean Penn; Jonathon Kozol; Michael Eric Dyson; Alice Walker
and many others.
The ad and the full text of the call are available on line at worldcantwait.org.
On January 31st,
2006, high school students are called to join with thousands of others
— including with teachers
like yourself — around the country. (include what the plans are
for the 31st in your area).

want to have a voice.
‘The World Can’t Wait, Drive Out the Bush Regime demonstrations
on November 2nd were
attended by thousands of high school students of diverse
nationalities all across the country
— including here in Chicago. The often negative image of
young people today was shattered by
the sight of far-thinking and concerned high students
taking a stand for what kind of world they
want to live in. They were electrifying.
The web site worldcantwait.org is full of information and debates about what is happening
and
what must be done about: The lying, the spying, the dying. War without end; justified
torture; the
pending loss of the right to abortion and even birth control; the attacks on
science; the breaking
down the separation of church and state; the ongoing shame of
Katrina; the criminalization of
undocumented immigrants.
Let your students decide for themselves( we guarantee they will be stimulated to thoughtful
debate by their exposure to the world can’t wait movement.
