“Your government is moving each day closer to a theocracy, where a narrow and hateful brand of Christian fundamentalism will rule.”
Today, Justice Sunday III is rallying millions to demand the
establishment of a theocracy, including the confirmation of Alito to
the Supreme Court. It is the third in a series of widely televised
Christian fundamentalist rallies which bring together top Republicans
with far right religious leaders. Its aims are clear: stacking the
judicial branch with those who will further the establishment of a
theocracy. Justice Sunday is an attempt to rally the troops with
distortions and lies, including one of the Nazi’s favorite tactics –
acting like the victim, in this case of “activist judges” who are
taking Christianity out of the public sphere, when reality the opposite
is true.
Justice Sunday cannot be written off as simply the work of lunatics
on the fringe. 79 million people watched its last rally. Bill Frist and
Tom Delay have spoken at previous Justice Sunday rallies. And today’s
rally is being held at Greater Exodus Baptist Church, a black church in
Philadelphia. This is an attempt by these fascists to make inroads into
the black community, despite their racist overtones, including
opposition to affirmative action and blaming Katrina victims for their
sins. Justice Sunday III includes Jerry Falwell, Sen. Rick Santorum,
James Dobson, James Kennedy, Edwin Meese, and reads like a who’s who
list of theocratic fascists. This is a truly dangerous force which has
the ears and support of the Bush regime. The fact that this rally is
being held on the eve of the Alito hearings shows us just how serious
they are about establishing their theocratic agenda.
Various organizations, including Act Up, progressive clergy, and
World Can’t Wait – Drive Out the Bush Regime will be outside in protest
of this modern Nazi rally. Justice Sunday III is a further indication
of the need for massive resistance demanding BUSH STEP DOWN during the
state of the union address. If you’re not convinced, just watch the
