criminalize and repress immigrants, immigrants directly under the gun
of repressive laws, racist vigilante “minutemen”, and a whole
atmosphere of bigotry and intolerance, and many others throughout
society are taking to the streets in huge numbers. The spark for
these protests was the House’s passing of the
Sensenbrenner bill (HR4437), which would make those without
papers and anyone who helps them in anyway (even giving a glass of
water) felons. An
unprecedented wave of resistance is spreading across the
country. As those in Beginning with a protest of up to 300 thousand in
Chicago on March 10, this spreading movement for immigrant rights
demonstrates the potential strength of people taking independent
political action. World Can’t Wait supports and joins this
urgently
needed outpouring of resistance, and will be bringing our call to drive out the Bush regime
to protests across the country. Major protests are planned in
cities across the country on April 10. Check back here for more
info.

The protests on Jan. 31st & Feb. 4 show that a
movement to drive out the Bush regime is coming together, involving a
broad array of people – from ministers to movie stars to the parents of
soldiers who died in Iraq; from writers to congresspeople to
scientists; from lawyers to activists to students to those who’ve quit
this regime in disgust; to thousands and thousands of “ordinary people.”
But this movement urgently needs the funds to connect with millions
more who want a vehicle to change the direction of society, with more
ads in newspapers and radio. And it needs the funds to sustain offices
in NYC and Washington DC, and to pay off debt incured from this weeks
state of emergency protests.
To make this happen, we need donations large and small – but especially large – immediately! And before writing your check, consider this: Your government, on the basis of outrageous
lies, is waging a murderous and utterly illegitimate war in Iraq, with
other countries in their sights. How much is it worth to you to change the whole direction of society? [click here to donate now]
NATIONWIDE CAMPUS SPEAKING TOUR:
Speaking the Unspeakable: Is the Bush Administration Guilty of War Crimes and Crimes Against Humanity?
This tour will paint a clear picture of the full scope and
nature of the Bush administration’s actions, cut through the fog of official
obfuscation and disinformation, and clearly establish the culpability of the
administration at the highest levels. Furthermore, it aims to provoke discussion of the moral imperatives and political
responsibilities that flow from the recognition of these realities. (click here for more info and tour dates)
This tour is inspired by hearings
held by the International Commission of Inquiry on Crimes Against Humanity by
the Bush Administration held in October 2005 and
January 2006 at the Manhattan Center, Riverside Church and Columbia University
Law School in New York City.
The Commission took testimony on administration actions
from 44 witnesses in five areas: (1) the war against Iraq (2) torture and
indefinite detention, (3) systematic policies contributing to the catastrophic
effects of global warming. (4) global HIV/AIDS and reproductive rights
policies, especially the genocidal effects of imposing “abstinence only” in the
midst of an AIDS pandemic and (5) response to Hurricane Katrina. Taken
together, a picture emerged of how truly unconscionable this administration is
on the scales of history.
