George W. Bush, 12/7: “In two and a half years, the Iraqi
people have made amazing progress. They’ve gone from living under the boot of a
brutal tyrant to liberation, to free elections, to a democratic constitution.”
Today’s reason to drive out the Bush regime:
Bush gave another speech today justifying the war in Iraq
and the need to ‘stay the course’. He spoke a lot about the supposed success in
rebuilding of Iraq’s infrastructure, but failed to mention (1) the war,
including its ‘shock and awe’ bombing, combined with years of sanctions which
prevented Iraq from getting many basic necessities destroyed much of Iraq’s
infrastructure, and (2) top priority has been placed on building infrastructure
for oil pipelines and military operations, while the Iraqi people suffer. Behind
the lies are the fact that this is “a
murderous and utterly illegitimate war”.
The speech is also a further wakeup call that Bush is
determined to ‘stay the course’ in this unjust war, continue on his worldwide
crusade, as well as his program overall, and his regime won’t go without a
fight. And furthermore, we can’t rely on the Democrats to stop this. Just
listen to what some of them had to say about Bush’s speech:
Senator Jack Reed of Rhode Island,
an ‘outspoken critic’ of the war, said: “Democrats firmly believe that the
U.S. can and
must succeed [in Iraq]
but the president’s open-ended, ill-defined policy will not get us there.”
Bush even quoted Lieberman in his speech: “What a
colossal mistake it would be for America’s
bipartisan political leadership to choose this moment in history to lose its
will) to seize defeat from the jaws of the coming victory.’
All the more reason to mobilize millions of people to take
independent action and drown out Bush’s lies during his State of the Union
address this January.
The World Can’t Wait! Drive Out the Bush Regime!
