Bush-Era War Official Stephen Hadley Speaks in San Francisco On 8th Anniversary of “Shock and Awe” Launching U.S. War on Iraq

WHAT: Protest Action, Speak-Out

"Hadley is a War Criminal: No More War Crimes!”

WHEN: Saturday Mar. 19, 2011, 3:30 PM — Rain or Shine

WHERE: World Affairs Council (Conference)

St. Regis Hotel, 125 3rd St. (next to Museum of Modern Art)
San Francisco

[NOTE: this event immediately follows antiwar mass rally and march beginning NOON at UN Plaza in San Francisco]

Stephen Hadley has recently headlined news (CNN and other outlets) of the volatile events in the Middle East, advocating U.S. aggression against Libya. Hadley will be the focus of anti-war protest this Saturday in San Francisco.

Stephanie Tang of World Can’t Wait said yesterday: “Stephen Hadley is a war criminal. He should not be a keynote speaker before the World Affairs Council – he should be charged and prosecuted for his past crimes, and allowed to commit no new crimes. For this illegal, immoral war, eight years and counting – Hadley has blood on his hands.”

Hadley served as National Security Advisor to George Bush during the run-up to the Iraq war. He was key in setting up the pretext for that war with accusations – and forged documents – that Saddam Hussein was trying to buy yellowcake uranium from Niger during the Iraq disarmament crisis.  Hadley has not yet experienced as much "war criminal public fame" as Yoo, Rice, Rumsfeld, et al. yet his participation in illegal and criminal acts is well documented:

  • Hadley assisted the planning and carrying out of a war of aggression

  • Despite memos from the CIA and a personal phone call from Director George Tenet, Hadley allowed reference to Iraq’s supposed pursuit of uranium to be included in Bush’s 2003 SOU speech

  • During the run-up to the invasion of Iraq, Hadley worked to insert mentions into speeches of a supposed meeting in the Czech Republic between Iraqi intelligence agents and alleged 9/11 hijacker Mohammad Atta

  • Hadley advocated use of nuclear weapons against chemical and biological weapons

Hadley currently runs a San Francisco-based consulting firm with his partner, Condoleezza Rice.
