On March 20, students, teachers and parents marched
with Latinos Against War from Roosevelt High School (RHS) to the Eastside
military & ICE (Immigration Control and Enforcement) center. The militant
protest rallied at the largest recruitment center in LA that targets young
Latinos in the East Los Angeles high schools.
The protest demanded full legalization for the 12
million immigrants, and an end to the ICE raids and deportations. They also
protested the increase in repression against Mexican, Chicano and Latinos communities,
by the ICE, which has been conducting workplace and home raids. Latinos Against
War (LAW) has organized this protest for the last 5 years in Boyle Heights
with the firm belief that we must build local grassroots movements for self
determination and against repression. The march and rally was organized by LAW
and Chicano Club El Sereno Middle School, and supported by Mecha de RHS, American
Friends Service Committee, International Action Center, SDS UCLA, SEIU 721
Latino Committee, May Day Unity Coalition, & Padres Unidos de Boyle
Heights.

The march and rally focused on stopping the ICE raids and opposition to the war
in Iraq, while also building
for the May 1, 2008 march and rally in down town Los
Angeles, for legalization of immigrants, against ICE racist
repression and opposing the war in Iraq.
A press conference in front of RHS held March 18, and the march/rally of March
20, 2008 were covered by Telemundo, Univision, TV 62 and an article on LAW in La
Opinion.
