Houston
saw three-hundred people show up at City Hall, united under the banner of
driving out the Bush regime. Our first
speaker was Sissy Farenthold who spoke about the recent terror bill the and
dismantling of habeas corpus that just passed in Congress. Larry Jones, Minister Robert Mohammed and
speakers from Military Families Speak Out, Veterans for Peace, the Harris
County Green Party also shared the stage.
We broke up the middle of the rally with a march to the
federal building. With red crime tape, two Guantanamo detainees, and a Bush and Cheney
stand in, we freed the detainees and wrapped the Bush and Cheney stand-ins in
the crime tape.
We increased in number from previous rallies but did not
have the numbers we hoped for or expected.
However, it was the first protest for nearly half of those attended, and
the many thanks we got for bringing this event together reinforced the reality
that deep in the red states, the potential to build this movement to drive out
the Bush regime is very much alive.
